This error usually occurs because the studio cannot find the location of your Java installation.

Please ensure your JAVA_HOME environment variable has been correctly set to point to your Java instalation directory.

A JAVA_HOME environment variable should also be set from the System Properties window to point to the JDK root folder. (Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and choose properties. Then select the advanced tab and click 'Environement Variables'.) This can be tested by running the following from a command prompt:

>echo %JAVA_HOME%

Why do I get a message saying "No data found" when I run the tutorial application?

The tutorial application makes remote calls to a set of web services hosted by Hyfinity to try and provide a real world scenario.

If these calls fail for any reason then there will not be any data to display on the screen, which by default causes the 'No data found' message to be output.

The Dashboard part of the studio can be used to examine the full trace of the running application to see exactly what happened, and any errors should be clearly marked. For more informaiton, refer to the troubleshooting section of the Tutorial documentation: http://www.hyfinity.net/mvcdocumentation/MVC/MVC%20Tutorials/Troubleshooting.html

If you continue to have problems with access the remote services, (for example due to proxy server issues) then it is possible to run these services locally so that the tutorial application can be completed. for more information on this, please refer to the following FAQ entry: Running the Tutorial web services locally

Running the Tutorial web services locally

The MVC Tutorial application makes use of web services hosted by Hyfinity to retrieve the 'contact' information.

If you are unable to access these web service for any reason (eg proxy server issues) the a patch is available to run these remote services locally.

This patch (MVC_2.8.0001) can be downloaded from the following FAQ entry, and should be installed by simply unzipping to your C:\ drive: Tutorial Services Patch

You would then need to go into the ‘Deploy Project’ screen within XDE for your tutorial application, and choose the ‘Runtime Pattern Deployment’. Select the Tutorial_Contacts_Services_Proxy pattern, and choose ‘Advanced Deployment’. This should show the URI that the application is trying to use to call the web services.

Change this to ‘http://localhost:7080/Tutorial_Services_v2/Contacts_Service' and click the ‘Deploy Node’ button to update the application to use the local web services.

If you now restart the runtime tomcat server, you should find that your application runs successfully.

If you are using an earlier product, please download and install patch MVC 2.5.0006, and deploy the 'PxP_Contact_Services_Proxy' pattern using a URL of 'http://localhost:7080/pxp_demo_services/pxp_demo_service'.
