The page layout in the centre of the screen provides full drag and drop support to rearrange components to achieve the required layout. When you move your mouse over the centre panel, a red highlight will indicate which component you are currently selecting. If you now press the mouse button, and start to drag this component, you will see a grey line appear to indicate where it will be placed when you release the mouse button. Moving groups or repeats in this way will automatically move everything contained within them. This drag and drop approach is also used to add new components, either from the design palette, or from a selected data source. In this case, the drag and drop approach also supports the concept of merging with the current component on the page. If a merge will be performed, when the mouse is released on a drag operation, you will see a dark red border around the component on the screen instead of the default grey insertion line.
The following merge operations are available when dragging from the design palette:
Merge Individual Control - If you drag one of the basic form controls from the palette, you can merge it with any individual field already on the page. In this case it will take all the display/look and feel properties from the palette control and apply these to the existing field. This includes changing the type of control, the styling applied, the visibility of the label, any display format information, etc. It will not adjust the name of the field or any of the data binding information. Merge Basic Group - You can merge a basic group control onto an existing group to change its display characteristics. For example, easily convert an existing layout group into a bordered group.
You can double-click elements on the page structure to rename the component and its label or caption where applicable. You can remove components by choosing 'Delete' from the right click context menu available on the centre panel. This menu also provides options for some common functions such as enabling the field label, or dynamic hiding capabilities, as well as links to visit the Field Details and Data Bindings tabs for the appropriate component. The Save and Cancel All buttons work in a similar manner to other pages. Clicking Save saves all changes made to the page structure since the last server call, whereas Cancel All resets all changes to the original state since the last server call.
