As for patterns, runtime patterns are grouped into categories, and the process to list the contents of a runtime pattern category is the same. Firstly, select the Runtime Patterns tab from the top of the page to see all of the available categories. From this page, click on the name of a category to see its listing. This new screen should look like the screen shown below. XDE runtime pattern list screen This page offers similar functions to those available to manipulate patterns. (See Listing Patterns.) We can copy, rename and delete runtime patterns in exactly the same way as described for patterns. The differences only arise in how we initially create runtime patterns.
This screen provides two options to achieve this:
The normal method is to clone an existing pattern. This is described in the next section, Cloning a Pattern. The second option is to upload a runtime pattern file from the file system. (Please note, this advanced option should be used sparingly. In nearly all cases, Runtime Patterns should be created by cloning existing patterns.) To use this option, type a name for the new runtime pattern and click upload. This will take us to the New Runtime Pattern screen. This allows the underlying metadata for the runtime pattern to be adjusted, and provides the capability to upload this content from an existing file. The submitted XML must define a valid runtime pattern file. If it does not, the new runtime pattern will not be created.
If we click on the name of a runtime pattern in this list, we will be able to see the structure of the runtime pattern in a similar way as for patterns. The difference, however, is that we cannot change the structure of a runtime pattern. We can position the nodes as required, but we cannot add or remove nodes or links for the runtime pattern. Example XDE Runtime pattern viewer screen. On this page we can double-click on a node for more information. The action performed will depend on the current setting of the Double Click Action.
If this is set to View Rules (the default), then double clicking on a node will open up a new window showing the current rules defined for the node. It is these rules that actually provide the logic for the node. For more details on how to view and edit the rules, please refer to the RuleMaker User Guide. Alternatively, if the setting is View Node Details, then double clicking on the node will show more configuration details about the node, which can then be edited if needed. this is described in the section Confirming Node and Action Information.
